Visiting Wexford

What to see and do in Wexford, Ireland

Wexford, the place of history, culture and entertainment If you are visiting the towns of Ireland, then you simply cannot skip visiting Wexford. This town is home to some of the most interesting architectural, cultural sites, as well as one of the largest natural parks in the entire Ireland. Besides, the town is easily accessible either via the M11/N11 route from Dublin or the national railroad system. Wexford is located south of the harbor that bears the same name, on the esturary of Slaney River. It would seem the first people who settled here approximately one thousand two hundred years ago were the Vikings, who dubbed the town Veisafjǫršr. Later on, the town was named Wexford by the Normans. Wexford is home to a large number of venues used by local music and theatrical groups, such as Bui Bolg, the Light Opera Society, the Oyster Lane Theater group and many more. The favorite locations for such events are the Opera House and the Dun Mhuire Theater, as well as the Arts Center. One of the favorite tourist attractions is the Irish Natural Park, home to architectural models of ancient dwellings from the Viking and the Norman age. At the same time, you will not want to miss the Wildfowl Reserve, inhabited by thousands of bird species during wintertime.
