Visiting Waterford

What to see and do in Waterford, Ireland

The Viking Triangle of Waterford The city of Waterford is also known as the Viking Triangle as it is one of the most prestigious and well preserved Viking Heritage towns in Ireland. This is actually the first Viking city built in Ireland, however, the raiders did not have much time to enjoy it, as they were driven away by the Irish after only fifty years of occupation. At the moment, the Irish government has already announced the investment of over six million Euros in creating an icon of the vast Viking heritage and culture. The truth is that they could not have picked a better place for the project. The oldest part of the city of Waterford is still surrounded by the original 10th century fortifications, hence the name. The city is full of monuments and historical buildings as a proof of the flourishing port activity during the medieval times and the 18th century. This old part of Waterford extends for over five hundred meters and it is bordered by the River Suir, the Cathedral Square and the famous Reginald’s Tower. Beside the Viking Triangle, the city of Waterford also has an impressive collection of art and museums to offer its visitors.
