Visiting Tipperary

What to see and do in Tipperary, Ireland

The medieval city of Tipperary Town Tipperary Town has been first stated in history documents in the 13th century during the reign of King John. Even though most of its medieval edifices are now long gone, the central area of the city still maintains the typical wide streets specific to the period the city was built. The main attraction of Tipperary Town is the Maid of Erin statue that commemorates three of the Irish national heroes also known as the Manchester Martyrs. The statue was built in the early 1900s and the female figure chosen to represent the martyrs symbolizes a combination of the purity of the Virgin Mary and Ireland. Due to the fact that Tipperary Town was the site of large military barracks of the British Army, it should not come as a surprise that Tipperary appears in songs such as “It’s a long way to Tipperary” or the famous “The Road Home”. The entire region of Tipperary is a place that deserves at least one exclusive vacation as it has hundreds of medieval building, churches and castles, each with its own story to tell about the reigns and the people that used to live in these lands.
