The city of Carlow is one of the small towns of Ireland that will simply impress you by the combination of modern and medieval architecture. Even though it is located at about fifty miles away from Dublin, Carlow is easy to reach. If you want to make sure that you are going to catch a glimpse of all the city’s medieval building and modern institutes, you should definitely try out a walking tour of the city of Carlow. You should start your tour at the Town Hall, as you will have the amazing spire of the Carlow Cathedral and Castle St. immediately before you. At the rear of the Town Hall, you will also see the County Museum, an impressive building that was initially designed as a theater. Carlow is full of monuments that commemorate the fight for independence of the Irishmen, such as the Liberty Tree and the Croppies Grave, bridges, the ruins of the Carlow Castle and modern building like the St. Patrick’s College. The most impressive attraction however, is the Browneshill Dolmen, a portal tomb that though to be three thousand years old and that is considered one of the biggest capstones in Europe.
