A Swiss cottage, the Excalibur film set and a must see castle - the walled city of Cahir has a lot to offer. The Swiss cottage of Cahir dates from the early 1800s and once belonged to Richard Butler, otherwise known as the first Earl of Glengall. The castle is considered a real masterpiece of architecture and design that was the center focus of the little town of Cahir. At the moment, it is included in the Irish Heritage list as it is built to incorporate nature in its beautiful architecture. If you are ever in Ireland, this is one of the attractions that is totally worth visiting. If you want to see history unveiling before your eyes, then you should also pay a visit to one of the most famous castles in the entire Ireland, the Cahir Castle. Dating back to the 16th century, this amazing piece of medieval architecture has undergone a great deal of remodeling for over two centuries, until it become the asset of the first Earl of Glengall. After the death of the last Butler family member, the castle was virtually abandoned until 1964 when the authorities restored it and included in the National Monument list. The Cahir Castle is also the location where the famous "Excalibur" movie was filmed. Hence, if you loved the movie, you will definitely enjoy the sight first hand.
